Role: Manager Business Development & Mergers and Acquisitions
Objective: A high-impact role which encompasses a multifaceted approach to driving strategic growth and enabling business development in some of our key markets in the Emerging Markets division. The individual will be pivotal in enabling M&A activities, developing strategies for portfolio analysis with an objective to maximising revenue opportunities across the regions.
For the same purpose, we are looking for a smart, driven, impact-oriented individual who will combine first principle problem solving skills with clinical execution. This person will ensure seamless revenue realisation through portfolio analysis and B2B deals, executing an end to end process from analysing the portfolio to identifying potential products, generating leads, driving and closing deals for B2B opportunities.
The role also entails working with the M&A strategy and execution teams to evaluate M&A opportunities coming up in the Emerging Markets. The individual will be expected to establish and maintain robust relationships with investment bankers, advisors, and other such stakeholders to identify potential M&A opportunities within the Emerging Markets’ pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, the individual will facilitate the evaluation of potential acquisition targets and navigate the deal process, working closely with broader M&A teams to ensure successful closures.
Responsibilities –
Portfolio analysis and leverage for India and Emerging Markets -
- Define strategy for overall portfolio analysis, along with key criteria both for the IH and B2B opportunity with an intent to maximizing revenue. The individual will be expected to -
- Shortlist assets
- Define opportunity size
- Iterate basis inputs of commercial leaders, and create execution strategy
- Work with Commercial team and Portfolio team to define
- Business case and P&L, with clear articulation of strategy on "where to play" (e.g. b2B/IH, which channels etc.) and "how to win" (e.g. for B2B, which partners and why)
- Product wise strategy and plan along with path to revenue
- Identifying, driving and closing deals with B2B partners
- Define strategic framework for selecting right partners
- Spearheading the BD process to forge deals with those select partners
- Creating a process to replicate the effort to other markets
Enabling M&A for Emerging Markets –
- Forge and maintain relations with bankers and other key stakeholders to identify potential M&A opportunities in all Emerging Markets.
- Facilitate in evaluation of potential targets, make financial models and enable management review of the potential targets
Qualifications
Experience and skills
- At least 2-3 years of work experience – Experience at top tier consulting firms (Pharma focussed/Generalists) or in BD/corporate development and M&A/corporate strategy team at a major Indian company/MNC
- Strong first problem solving skills with demonstrated business impact in previous experience at work
- Business acumen to build strategies and work with senior stakeholders to refine and align the same – some experience in strategy projects shall be great
- Good understanding of basics of corporate finance, e.g. elements of P&L, business case
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong stakeholder and relationship management; Should have ability to influence stakeholders across levels and resolve conflicts
- Experience/exposure in Pharma sector is a plus but not a must have
Educational qualifications
- MBA preferably from Tier 1 Institute (or)
- Chartered accountants / Graduates from top tier engineering colleges, pharmaceutical institutes

Emerging Markets
Branded generics is one of our biggest businesses in Emerging market and our branded products are available 48 countries across 5 regions. Our key markets are Russia, China and Brazil. We also have presence in Latin America, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), CIS and Romania. We have added 13 new geographies in the last 5 years.
In the last 4 years, our emerging markets business’ growth rate has doubled (June ’22). Our diverse portfolio spans all segments. We are continuously advancing technologies, enhancing efficiency of operations and increasing our portfolio of highest-quality quality products.
