Job Description

Role Summary

We are looking for a Principal - Business intelligence  with a strong background in Business Intelligence Platforms,  data modelling , and tools like Power BI, to lead the development of data products that deliver actionable insights across the organization. This role combines product thinking, stakeholder management, and technical BI expertise to build high-impact, semantic models, and self-serve analytics layers and dashboards


Key Responsibilities

Product Ownership

* Own and drive the roadmap for data and BI products — from discovery to delivery and adoption.
* Translate business needs into data requirements and work with data engineers/analysts to prioritize delivery.
* Define product metrics (usage, adoption, business impact) and continuously iterate for improvement.

BI & Technical Skills

* Design and develop scalable data models (star/snowflake schema/knowledge graph) for reporting and analytics.
* Build and optimize Power BI dashboards and semantic models (Power BI datasets / Analysis Services).
* Define, Govern KPIs and metrics with business stakeholders and ensure metric consistency across reports, Business Units.

Stakeholder Engagement

* Act as the bridge between business users and the data engineering/analytics team.
* Conduct requirement gathering workshops and proactively evangelize the use of BI tools and data products.

Data Governance & Quality

* Ensure adherence to data governance, quality, and security standards in BI solutions.
* Work closely with data engineering to ensure data availability, lineage, and traceability.


Qualifications


Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Business, or a related field.

Technical:

* 8-12 years of experience in BI, analytics, or data product roles.
* Hands-on expertise with Power BI (including Power Query, DAX, custom visuals).
* Strong understanding of  data modeling concepts – star/snowflake schema, dimensions, facts.
* Familiarity with SQL and cloud data platforms (Azure, Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.).
* Experience with versioning, deployment (Power BI service), and access controls.

Product & Soft Skills:

* Experience working in agile teams and product lifecycle management.
* Strong communication skills – ability to explain complex data to business users.
* A mindset for experimentation, iteration, and user-centered design.
* Ability to prioritize based on impact and negotiate scope with stakeholders.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

* Experience with other BI tools (Tableau, Looker, Qlik).
* Exposure to self-service analytics platforms, Knowledge graph and Ontology concepts or conversational BI tools.
* Knowledge of data cataloging, MDM, or enterprise data governance platforms.
* Experience in specific domains like Finance, Pharma, or Supply Chain.
