Job Summary
We are looking for a meticulous professional to spearhead the Process Safety Management (PSM) system activities, ensuring thorough PHA of existing and new products, updating BPRs, and implementing robust process safety controls. Your role is pivotal in maintaining safety standards, coordinating with stakeholders, conducting training programs, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Roles & Responsibilities
- You will be responsible to coordinate with site safety team for smooth functioning by following DREAMS ZERO HARM Functional & Competency levels consisting of Culture, learn from experience, Manage Risk, Systems and Process & Operational Discipline.
- You will be responsible to comply the legal requirements as per Compliance watch.
- You will be responsible for coordinating competition of PSM system activities such as PHA (Process Hazard Analysis), PSI (Process Safety Information), MOC (Management of Change), and PSSR (Pre-Start Up Safety Review).
- You will be responsible for completion of PHA of existing and new products.
- You will update BPRs (Batch Production Records) of all existing and new products with chemical hazards, and chemical and activity-specific PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) inclusion in RM (Raw Material) and product handling.
- You will execute implementation of better process safety controls in processes for Hazard.
- You will be responsible for implementing PSM system standards.
- You will be responsible for designing and facilitating the implementation of safety management systems for site functional SOPs.
- You will support the business unit Site SHE Head & Plant Head to identify risks at site and run the risk register update and monitoring mechanism.
- You will be responsible for SHE Performance Management, including safety KPI (Key Process Indicators) definition and monitoring, analysing the trend for performance tracking at zone and site levels, and publishing these reports.
- Your responsibilities include coordinating with IPDO (Integrated Product Development Organization) and third-party labs for obtaining process safety data such as DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) data and thermal stability/ safety data for existing and new product samples.
- You will conduct training program on PSM, high hazard chemical handling, high hazard processes, high hazard powder operations and general safety topics such as equipment safety, static electricity, electrical safety, etc.,
- Your role involves fulfilling the PSSR checklist as per guidelines, preparing MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the finished products, ensuring availability of MSDS for all RMs, and supporting Internal and external audits.
- You will be responsible for attending Process/Technology Transfers to review SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) package during new Technology Absorption for new products.
- Your role extends to maintaining tracker and coordinating for CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) closures for PHA, MOC and PSSR.
- You will be responsible to ensure all permit to work system followed as per standards and procedures.
- You will be responsible for identification and monitoring of high hazard chemical handling, safety-critical operations in high hazard processes and high hazard powder processing operations.
- As part of your role, you will conduct periodic measurement of static charge for powders.
- Your role involves reviewing risk register to ensure compliance of action points on a monthly basis, regular Site Inspection (identification of unsafe situations, hand holding through rectifications, advising for CAPAs closures, etc.), and coordinating preventive recurrence.
- Your responsibilities also include supporting implementation of BU (Business Unit) initiatives, participating in internal safety meetings, and encouraging all workers and staff to report unsafe situations and near-miss incidents.
- You will be responsible for conducting Mock Drills periodically.
- You will be responsible for up keeping Safety & Fire protection equipment.
- You will be responsible for participating internal safety meetings (IPDO BU Apex, Site Safety APEX, PSM, CSM, LSM review meetings).
Educational qualification: B.Tech in Chemical Engineering & Diploma in Industrial Safety preferred
Minimum work experience: 3-5 years in process safety / process engineering
Skills & attributes:
Technical Skills
- Experience in fundamentals of chemical engineering like ability to understand process behavior, reactions, and equipment operations.
- Experience in conducting safety training sessions for contractor employees, emergency squads, and other personnel according to the safety training calendar, covering topics such as hazard awareness, emergency procedures, PSM and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
- Ability to inspect all equipment, tools, and tackles using safety checklists or audit checklists to ensure compliance with safety standards and identify potential hazards or defects.
- Knowledgeable in safe chemical handling and interpretation of MSDS
- Support emergency response activities during fire, leak, or spill events.
- Knowledgeable of basic process safety regulations and statutory compliance requirements
- Competent in preparing and maintaining process safety documents and reports
- Capable of conducting basic incident investigations using simple RCA methods
- Identify and evaluate process hazards through participation in PHA studies like HAZOP, HIRA, and What‑If analysis.
- Skilled in supporting the implementation of all PSM elements such as operating procedures, mechanical integrity, training, and emergency planning
- Should be able to manage MOC processes to ensure all changes are safely evaluated and approved, and conduct PSSR to verify that equipment, procedures, and safeguards are in place before startup

• Strong coordination abilities to liaise with IPDO, third-party labs, and other stakeholders for safety-related activities.

• Attention to detail in identifying process hazards, risks, and compliance with safety protocols, particularly in new molecule launches.
